Yesterday, on our way to the beach (friend Robin, her dog Storm, and my dog Toby) it was grey and drizzly. During a downpour in Cannon Beach, we kept reassuring each other that the weather report for the next few days was for clearing and sunny skies.
Today--the blessing of just that. Brilliant blue sky, gentle breeze, the crashing of the waves. A walk on the beach this morning perfect for a long-sleeved shirt. This afternoon a jaunt through the sleepy beach town was t-shirt weather perfection. Our room is literally "acrosss the street" from the beach so soothing surf music is the background of all our time here. Blessings indeed.
In an effort to stay focussed, a challenge for me!, I've limited the number of books to take on this trip. My daily planner (of course), my travel Bible (NRSV), In Praise of Slowness (Challenging the Cult of Speed) by Carl Honore, and seven sacred pauses by Macrina Wiederkehr. In my limited reading so far there is a thread connecting them. And the word that hit me in the head this morning was "mindfulness."
Todays special blessings: God's marvelous creation of surf and sand--the sights, the sounds, the aromas, the freshness of the air.
